Rationale
The film I chose is one of my favorites, The Chronicles of Narnia. I chose a Peacock for this because it is an unusual animal that hasn't really been made into a character as such. Also, I wanted something with a strong personality as well as a strong physical appearance, as I wanted to make a wing-man for the leader of the Chronicles, Aslan. So Sherard is a good friend of Aslan and will protect and guard him with his life. Everything used to make Sherard has been made from scratch, or remade/rebuilt to fit my requirements.
After dropping him a week before handin, I reckon I have made a good comeback, with a stronger base, more frame work, extra details and an improved paint job.
Materials used:
Body:
wire armature
tinfoil
super firm sculpy
Head:
bits of peacock feathers (for the top)
pins (for the eyes)
super firm sculpy
rice (top of head and neck)
Arms:
wire armature
tinfoil
super firm sculpy
extra added super firm sculpy for wings/feathers
Legs/feet:
wire armature
tinfoil
masking tape
super firm sculpy
Armor:
metal sheet from gorden harris
metal kitchen dish scrubber (chain armor)
peacock feathers (shoulder pads)
Cape:
an old slip from a dress of mine
Tail:
green feathers
peacock feathers
a fan that I have dismantled (tail frame)
a dismantled pair of 3D glasses -an ear piece (used for mechanical effect)
-this allows the tail to be lifted up and down while still being perfectly secure on the sculpture
Base:
the backing of a photo frame
fake moss
An extra base will be added just before presentation, for extra sturdiness and classiness
-made of a thick sturdy glass type material. Cut by Gus at the Massey University Workshop. Thanks Gus!
Overall, a really fun assignment and I am pleased with my final product :)
A bit of an Accident
Due to last Friday's windy weather, the box in which I was carrying the sculpture fell out of my arms and onto the ground. I didn't realize how bad it was until I arrived home.
However, luckily I was able to stick some things back on and remake some parts.
The Peacock lives!
A few changes had to be made in the remaking, but I personally think he looks better than before the accident.
